Punkaharju Swim, 22 August 2026 – welcome to one of Finland’s national landscapes

The newest addition to Finnish open water swimming events in summer 2026 is Punkaharju Swim. The swim routes (1, 2 and 4 km) run alongside Finland’s most iconic ridge landscape, with the well-known Punkaharju scenery framing the swim from start to finish.

Punkaharju is one of the world’s oldest nature reserve areas and one of Finland’s most iconic national landscapes. One of its distinctive features is the Punkaharju Ridge Road, selected as the Road of the Century in Finland.

Along the route, you will experience for example:

  • glacial moraine formations shaped over thousands of years beneath the water
  • the historic Kivisalmi bridge and its underpass, evoking centuries of history
  • a loop around Hynninsaari through reed-fringed waters
  • passing the Runeberg Hill area
  • finish at Pususilta bridge near the Finnish Forest Museum Lusto
